Or it seemed like that! Last night at the Iota in Arlington,VA, Eric Brace and Last Train Home with Peter Cooper took the stage for a joyous and triumphant evening of music. Eric told me afterwards that most of the players only had played sets before with some of the others. And by the way they were all A-Listers, including Pete Finney on magnificent pedal steel, soulful Jen Gunderman on accordion and keys, and the ever effervescent Kevin Cordt on trumpet. Our own Music Fogger Ben was having a hard time getting the players in back on camera as the stage was so crowded. After a short intermission, they added one more to their ranks, and brought John Wesley Harding to the stage for this great take of Top of the Bottom.
Walt Wilkins "Trains I Missed"
Having had the magical experience of seeing Walt play the KNBT Americana Jam in New Braunfels, TX this past Sunday, I was once again struck by just how good a songwriter he is. Evocative lyrics that take you on a journey...speaking of this, he is readying a moving new album, not sure when it will be out! But anyway, back to Walt's lyrics. Seeing him perform "Trains I Missed" is homage to the random things that happen to us all, that shape our lives, that make us the people we are. What a song. Here it is from the stage at Threadgill's.

Shurman "I'm Not Crazy"
Very few bands these days "want it" as much as the guys from Shurman do. Check out this SXSW 2009 performance at Threadgill's south to see what we mean...
