John Cowan "East Meets Wes"

Snowtime  I was valiantly trying to get to DC to go hang out at The Mansion on O for the Mary McBride show, now cancelled with the impending SNOWPOCALYPSE event this weekend in the Northeast. I now must watch from afar...but what I was planning was to stay up all night, go to the airport for the first flight out, and try to beat the snow. I was going to blog it, your trusty reporter, on site, delayed and eating Fritos at the airport for an interminable period, with some clothing bunched up under my head to nap away the hours. Alas, I will have to leave the snow reporting to Beans, Aaron, and Chris. Beans is making a Ken doll type snowman already, I think its name is Pat. Aaron is doing up a pot of chili.

John Cowan at Mtn Stage I had promised I would check out the John Cowan track "East Meets West," but I expected to be writing about it in transit in the middle of the night, and here I am on the couch in the evening. No matter what time you watch, this is magnificent. You know there are virtuosos among us. There are articulate, inspired artists that could go nose to nose with anyone, anywhere. "East Meets West" features some mighty sophisticated jazz picking. It will transport you WHEREVER you want to go, even though you might not be able to get there this weekend!

Tara Nevins w The Believers "Locket & Key"

I know, I know, the Music Fog crew is starting to get excited about the upcoming adventure to the Great White North for MusicFest at Steamboat Springs. We wax poetic about frolicking in the snow, of 10 degree days or nights, of relentless champagne powder falling gently among the twinkling après Christmas lights still gracing the trees. But ya know, not everybody gets it. I remember talking to Jerry Jeff Walker one night at The Birchmere in Alexandria, and telling him that he needed to make the MusicFest scene one of these years, and he said, "Snow, I don't think so! You will find me in Belize." Which is a beautiful place, too, we hear.

Tara Nevins In keeping with the head south tradition, Donna The Buffalo ventures to western Palm Beach County in Florida for a January 2nd date at The WCHS Theater in Wellington. Palm Beach...now doesn't that sound delicious too? Easy breezes, sand between your toes, drinks with fruit juice, t-shirts and flip flops. May have to go there next! This song was on the most recent DTB CD Silverlined. Here is Tara collaborating with The Believers on "Locket and Key."

Chris Smither "Time Stood Still"

Chris Smither AYEEEEEEEE! The Christmas rush is well underway. You can feel the year winding down and speeding up at the same time, to accommodate all that we HAVE to get done before the holiday, and before the calendar changes to 2010. Wow, that number even looks different. As we enter a new decade, there are lots of things to be remembered. One of them is to slow it down and savor what's important. In this fast and furious world, a touch, a kindness, a kiss...a moment, can change everything. Take a deep breath and immerse yourself in the masterful zen of Chris Smither from The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA.
