BettySoo "Whisper My Name"

BettySoo-hoodie-bw-small This is one of those rare moments when the recording gear and the artist are absolutely in sync with each other. BettySoo was in a zone during this recording. There was little back and forth chatter about anything. Just the sound of her guitar as she tuned it accurately...and she was not going to be rushed in the turning process.

Aaron made his decisions as to what mics to use. Chris did his usual lighting thing that lighting guys do. And Betty just went about her business, trusting the crew in the room with whatever decisions were being made. But when she started to play everything locked in. Her voice flowed through the mic like water. Her guitar was played so accurately that it gave the Music Fog cameras a chance to show how absolutely beautiful human fingers look when they meld with guitar strings.

Giving Fog fans a close up view of artists performing has always been a Music Fog goal. Being able to view something that you would never see sitting in front of a stage is what we do. And this is one of the finest examples of that so far.

Thank You BettySoo! This one was pretty damn moving.

Eric Brace & Peter Cooper "Sheboygan"

EB&PC-cover The crew was a little punch drunk and there may have been some Jack Daniel's green label floating around the bus...all day. Eric was riffing on his guitar and stealing lines from me for songs. I didn't mind; in fact he asked if he could use them. I mentioned that he could have anything he wanted, except my then current favorite fictional song title, "200 Miles to Tupelo." We sipped some more Jack, and laughed. Yes, we were sittin' on the bus drunk again. It almost felt like we were parked in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Cheers!

Sarah Jarosz "Edge Of A Dream"

Sarah Jarosz It was Saturday afternoon. The day of Sarahs in Nashville. Sara Watkins, Sarah Borges, Sarah Jarosz. I'm sure that Jessie had booked it this way just to confuse the crew. Now we were stuck having to use complete names! That just isn't normal video/audio crew conduct. We like to dumb it down. Use abbreviations or code words. Putting a number on a name just sucks. We like to be presidential. We like to use words like "Eagle" and "Mother Goose." But there was no having that today...today we would learn everybody's first and last names. Today the Music Fog crew would have to sink or swim with everybody's actual name! This was alien to us.

I don't think that Sarah Jarosz is a stage name. Not like Elliott BROOD. (But Aaron did bid hello to "Elliott" when one of them stepped onto the bus.) Nope, Sarah hasn't changed hers to some kind of alias. But she might be considering doing that after having been stuck on a bus recording with this crew. If I were to pick a security type name for Sarah it would be "Phantom." Because that's what her voice sounds like...a phantom voice. Not evil spirit phantom. Good phantom. The kind of phantom that movies would have fly into your window at night and take you away to somewhere you could only dream of. A kind of place where french fries are good for you.

Thank you Sarah Jarosz. I'm going to eat french fries in your honor today.
