The Believers with Tara Nevins "Higher Ground"

Believers In Nashville, we were lucky to have Tara Nevins of Donna the Buffalo drop by the Music Fog bus, and doubly so when she brought The Believers with her. They jammed together for a total of four songs, and this one, "Higher Ground" from the Believers' Lucky You project, is something special. It feels like bluegrass at first, then blues, and finally becomes something else entirely. It's a big sound from just three people, and if you like what you hear, they've got a few shows together, including a New Year's Eve spectacular at the Loveless Barn in Nashville---a perfect setting for a midnight toast with these two bands.

Raul Malo "Welcome To My World"

Raul Malo We were stylin' in a luxurious motor coach, but were quickly upstaged when a slick black Cadillac rolled up next to the bus. Out stepped Raul Malo with a beautiful Takamine in hand, ready to get comfy on the couch and swoon a few!

When I hear Raul perform this classic, I float off to a different place in my head. The style with which he delivers the story seems to draw you in and steals any attention you may have mistakenly directed elsewhere. Time stops. Memories rush in. A crooked smile and a gleam in your eye make their presence known. All is right with the world. Wow, we could use some more of this, huh? It also reminds me to re-visit Raul's Marshmallow World & Other Holiday Favorites CD by this time next week---simply beautiful golden tones. But this will definitely hold me over 'til then...Welcome to My World.

Gabriel Kelley "Panic"

Gabriel Kelley All is going swimmingly well in the world of Gabriel Kelley. His website is being redesigned, and Dualtone has posted both of his EP's for digital download: Light at the Bottom and Stranded in Nashville. Gabe comes to Americana naturally, as he was raised in the foothills of the Appalachians, steeped in the music of his forefathers. Added were layers of rock and roll, blues and soul, making for a heady stew.

The Music Fog crew was blown away by his band set (the same evening at 3rd & Lindsley), I dig the beard, and Beans thinks the song "Panic" is a stone smash.
