Tara Nevins w The Believers "Locket & Key"

I know, I know, the Music Fog crew is starting to get excited about the upcoming adventure to the Great White North for MusicFest at Steamboat Springs. We wax poetic about frolicking in the snow, of 10 degree days or nights, of relentless champagne powder falling gently among the twinkling après Christmas lights still gracing the trees. But ya know, not everybody gets it. I remember talking to Jerry Jeff Walker one night at The Birchmere in Alexandria, and telling him that he needed to make the MusicFest scene one of these years, and he said, "Snow, I don't think so! You will find me in Belize." Which is a beautiful place, too, we hear.

Tara Nevins In keeping with the head south tradition, Donna The Buffalo ventures to western Palm Beach County in Florida for a January 2nd date at The WCHS Theater in Wellington. Palm Beach...now doesn't that sound delicious too? Easy breezes, sand between your toes, drinks with fruit juice, t-shirts and flip flops. May have to go there next! This song was on the most recent DTB CD Silverlined. Here is Tara collaborating with The Believers on "Locket and Key."

JD Souther "Bye Bye Blackbird"

Jd-southerIt was a rainy day in Nashville, and JD's voice was "on the edge" from the night before. He figured there was a good chance that he wouldn't be able to perform for us, and mentioned that he brought some rough mixes of an upcoming project for us to listen to. After a bit of getting comfy in the Celebrity Coach, and catching up with Jessie, he decided a couple of "soft vocal" tunes might work out. He bellied up nice and close to the Neumann mic and just floored everybody on the bus with this rare little standard. I believe he does "Bye Bye Blackbird" in concert on occasion---all the more reason for you to catch a JD Souther show sometime soon.

Oh, by the way, we never did get to hear those rough mixes!

Ruby James "Angel Eyes"

Snow in Texas It is supposed to snow today in Austin TX. This concerns me as I sit in the airport, wondering if there will be an interminable delay. Snow in Austin is a very unusual occurrence, and because it happened last year, all bets were off that it would happen again this year. I mean once every five years is about right. So I hope I make it, because I have an appointment tonight.

Ruby James Raul Malo, Latin Roots Crooner, is at Antone's, and opening for him is none other than Miss Ruby James! One sultry night, in the magical snow (?) and crystal frostiness of Austin! Ruby's new album Happy Now is being finalized, we should see it sometime soon. Here she is from our excursion to Nashville in September.
