Mic Harrison And The High Score "Out Of The Blue"

The Music Fog Kickstarter campaign to raise money to allow us to Nashville in September is off to a slow start. We hope that if you enjoy our videos, you would in essence “pay it forward,” with a pledge to support our travels and production costs. We also hope you’d retweet and post our Kickstarter link on your Facebook page.  We have only 24 more days to hit our goal. If we don’t make it, the pledged money reverts back to you. Not to mention, Music Fog would not be in attendance at The Americana Music Association Conference IF WE DON”T RAISE THE MONEY. Sorry to yell, but we know our videos travel through the social networks, to thirsty people who are looking for music discovery delivered in a quality package. WE KNOW IT’S WORKING, and we really need your help to make our next trip a reality. We have no corporate sponsorship - eventually it will come, but not in this economic environment. we are on a mission to seek Americana Music out, and deliver it to you.

We have another exclusive video debut for you today. A couple of weeks ago, we put up another song we filmed at Americana Fest last year with Scott Miller and Mic Harrison, AKA The V-Roys. The had put out an album and did a year end concert together in 2011, and made some appearances in support of the project. They are both continue their solo pursuits, too.

Mic Harrison and The High Score have released three previous albums: Push Me On Home (2007), On the Right Side of the Grass (2008) and Great Commotion (2010)  Today’s video is “Out Of The Blue,” from their brand new album Still Wanna Fight, just released in early July. Crank it kids! This is a summer rocker, then go and see them for a fun night out.

Shovels & Rope "Hell's Bells"

Photo Credit: Leslie Ryan McKellarA couple of years ago, I took a drive with Dustin Welch from Cherokee Creek Music Festival to Gruene Hall for two incredible, not to be missed musical line-ups. It is a bit of a hike through the Hill Country, so we had lots of time to listen to music together. One of the folks he turned me on to was Cary Ann Hearst. I instantly fell in love with her voice. Dustin regaled me with tales of Cary Ann and Michael Trent performing together as Shovels & Rope.

Several months ago when they played outdoors at Threadgill’s, they gave me the album titled Shovels & Rope, but that they put out with their given names. Just a few weeks back, their new CD arrived. O’ Be Joyful is coming out on July 31st, under the name Shovels & Rope. Just remember that name, is all I ask. They are raw and ragged and righteous. They are a band, just the two of them, and they are making some serious waves. Most times I like to wait for the album to come out, so we can link to it, but today I ain’t waiting. Today’s tune is “Hell’s Bells,” from the van, as they cruise the country making a documentary, that I for one can’t wait to see!

Marley's Ghost "Rollin"

Poodie’s Roadhouse, west of Austin on HWY 71 reverberates with the music that its walls have seen. Poodie, who passed a couple of years ago, was Willie Nelson’s best friend and longtime stage manager, and was ever vigilant about giving newcomers a chance to be heard. I was a judge this past Monday night for the Larry Joe Taylor Songwriters Contest which goes on for eight weeks. The grand prize is passage for two on the Larry Joe Taylor seven day cruise, including a featured artist slot, plus the opportunity to hob nob with some songwriting heroes.

I love folks that are in this crazy music biz for the long haul! Today we celebrate a national treasure, the band Marley's Ghost, on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. They marked the moment by releasing the new album Jubilee last month. Dan Wheetman, Jon Wilcox, Mike Phelan, Ed Littlefield Jr. and Jerry Fletcher play a dizzying array of instruments, really too many to count.  Cowboy Jack Clement, another national treasure, produced the new CD at Nashville’s venerable Sound Emporium, built by Cowboy Jack himself. There are contributions from Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Old Crow Medicine Show, Marty Stuart, Larry Campbell, Byron House, and Don Heffington. The band was super charged having these amazing and talented friends sit in with them. Marley’s Ghost will be making some key appearances at upcoming festivals,, including Strawberry and Walnut Valley, where you can celebrate along with them.

Music Fog is delighted to debut the video for “Rollin.’” Here tis!
