MusicFest

Charlie Foxtrot

I have to admit that yesterday here at MusicFest was a cluster Fu*%(@! Yes, we all had our plans...I planned on producing so much performance video it would have made any Music Fog follower call their mom and ask to come home. But that was not to be.

Right out of the gate there was trouble. Camera #2 lost it's mind and became our red-headed stepchild. Everything it filmed looked like 70's porn. Then, one of the band's managers lost his iPhone at the condo. There was no finding it, after we requested that "all phones go silent" during taping. We felt bad for him. But couldn't find it. So, we thought that some Tito's might make the pain stop. It didn't. Next, Sheila got squirted in the eye by a Jalapeño pepper while helping Jessie prepare her special Green Chili stew. It must have been painful. All I remember hearing is, "My eye! Oh God, my eye!" Some how she patched it up, served Jessie's Green concoction, and made plans to go out for the night.

When we arrived at The Grand for last night's show, we were summoned by Katie Key. She also wasn't having the best of days. But her Texas Music reports needed to go on the radio by 10p (central time), and we promised to produce them for her for nothing more than a cheese platter with an assortment of fine smoked meats. So, back to the condo with Katie in tow. But where was the cheese platter?

Sheila had also taken her bad eye and headed out for the night. We planed on meeting at the big tent. Sheila arrived, but was alone for the night. Just her and her bad eye. No friends, no ride, and a dead phone. Getting back to the condo was tricky at best. After a couple of assists, and walking on the side of the road "very carefully" she managed to find her way back. And crawl into her sleeping bag on the floor for some shut eye. And I do mean "Shut Eye."

Let's hope that today brings us exactly what we came for. Great friends, music, and maybe a bit of sanity.

Jason Eady "God Fearing Blues"

We spent the morning working on the lighting, the phones, the email, and the Google Maps. As we are holed up in an undisclosed location at Steamboat...and I see a theme emerging..."we don't know WHERE we are," once again! It's pretty sad when you have to go to Mapquest to tell someone how to get to you.

In any case, it wound up inadvertently being a race between Band Of Heathens and Jason Eady to get here for a Music Fog session. BOH were supposed to arrive first, but their prior soundcheck ran long, so we asked Jason Eady to come by earlier. And so they both wound up here at the same time. Listen at the end for what actually might sound like an audience.

I will paint the picture: Ski lift in the distance, snow on the boughs of the majestic pine trees, people out of breath from walking a couple of flights of stairs in the thin air, aroma wafting from a pot of green chili stew on the stove...and the gospel going to church in the middle of the day, "God Fearing Blues," from Jason Eady and the Wayward Apostles.

Band of Heathens "Somebody Tell the Truth"

Well here we are in the living room studio at La Casa de Ski Lodge, our hacienda up the mountains in the snow. This is so cool, it is my third MusicFest with a visit from the Band Of Heathens. A promise: Guys, next time we get together, I will have the food ready in time for you! Unless you want to come back now...stew is done! They were circling the slow cooker!

We're down the hill to partake of the nighttime music schedule going on at MusicFest at Steamboat Springs. Bear River, Steamboat Grand, and MusicFest Tent, are all getting hit! Here is some inspirational music to get you going wherever..."Somebody Tell The Truth."
