Music Fog - A Cult? Or Pyramid Scheme?

So we woke up this morning to another day of bacon cooking in the kitchen, and Aaron in his PJs doing something to a pork shoulder roast that involved peppers (lots and lots), and wise-ass comments from Sheila while she was wearing ski goggles to protect her eyes from further damage.

After checking the internets for comments, we discovered that some Music Fog fans appreciate our work, but think that we have a "pyramid scheme" going on here. As always we appreciate interaction with fans and no...we don't have a pyramid scheme going on behind the scenes. But we do rely on many others for "favors" and free food, if we can get it.

Sean McConnell (with empty bowl of verde)Our first artist today was Sean McConnell. He arrived as Jessie and others on the crew were arguing in the kitchen about sausages. After doing his performance, Sean sat down for Chili Verde and quiet conversation. It was at that moment that Sean asked the question, "Are you guys a cult?" He noted that the argument over the muses of sausage seemed strangly suspicious. He concluded that we are indeed a sausage cult and it would probably serve him best to just treat us with respect and join the clan. He'll have to wait for his information packet to arrive in the mail, and he did leave with a stomach full of elk sausage.

More artists to come on the site. And if we get scrutinized more today we will let you know.

Ray Wylie Hubbard "Drunken Poet's Dream"

Our good buddy and renaissance man Ray Wylie Hubbard is at it again! He came by the living room bunker this afternoon, and listened to Todd Snider sing, then took his turn at the mic.

Always an auspicious event, this time around made more so as his brand new album A. Enlightenment B. Endarkenment (Hint: There Is No C) is about to be released on Tuesday, January 12th. One wonders how this album will come to be referred to in the future. Hell, the punctuation alone is enough to send masters students a scurrying! And catching up with Ray is a trip anyway! He always has interesting things going on...like the movie "Last Rites Of Ransom Pride," which is being talked about on the web, and be sure to check out whokilledthedwarf.com. And then there is a T-Shirt made special for MusicFest, "I partied my head off with Ray Wylie Hubbard." And there is always news of Ray and Judy's son Lucas, who is becoming quite the tasty lead guitarist, and we hear might be readying an album himself in the not too distant future. We can't wait!

From Ray's brand new CD, here is "Drunken Poet's Dream," co-written by Hayes Carll (you might already be familiar with his version) and Ray...here 'tis!

The Trishas "Against the Grain"

It just don't get better than this. I awakened at the crack of noon, had coffee and a plate of eggs, sausage, tater tots and fresh croissants put in front of me, and then The Trishas arrived amidst a flurry of morning mayhem and blew us away again.

Then the amazing Todd Snider stopped by, Ray Wylie Hubbard brought us some new tunes and an old favorite, and we had Cody, Willy, and Micky Braun...together in front of our cameras! As I write this post, I have the news on TV, (I am a news junkie.) Laying on the bed with my laptop, and my feet up with a pillow under the knees. There was a Shiner lip balm in the goodie bag (hey...can we start calling them "gig bags" instead?) so the dry alpine air is counter-acted. AHHHHHHH. Seriously, the music today was the most luxurious luxuries of all.

Starting a day with The Trishas is always a good idea. We did the same thing in Nashville during the Americana Music Festival. It's just a few months later, and my, my, my! It is so wonderful to check back in with them to watch their progress. I feel like we are witnessing the ground floor of a remarkable story, Jamie, Savannah, Kelley and Liz are fun, sweet, beautiful, and incredibly talented. Yeah Buddy! Here they are with "Against the Grain."
