Patrick Sweany "Chelsea Swing"

Alright party people, it is Friday. And a Friday smack dab in the height of the summer is ready made for good times. I hope you are able to escape early for some chill time at the beach, at poolside, or in a shady spot in the country. The days still feel long and languorous, so take a cue from the heat of the season and let it drive you to the cool. Aaaaah, yes! Maybe the cool can be found inside a tavern, well that’s ok too, just make sure you have a designated driver or can call a cab.

We've got a perfect party tune today. One of those ‘the heck with it, let’s just go have fun’ songs. Patrick Sweany elevates front porch pickin’ to a high art, effortless and evocative. Yes, and it makes you move, you just have to see him!  “Chelsea Swing” is the song, originally released on his 1999 album, I Want To Tell You. Patrick came to see us during last year’s Fall Music Fog Marathon in Nashville at Marathon Recorders. BTW, Music Fog has just announced another Kickstarter campaign to fund a return to Nashville in September for the Americana Fest. If you enjoy what we do, we would love your help, whether by posting, tweeting, or even pledging to become a backer. There are lots of levels of participation for every pocketbook, and we would SO appreciate it. The thing about it is if we don’t hit our goal, we don’t get any of the money. Of course, if we don’t raise the money, we will not be able to attend this year. Thanks in advance for keeping the Americana Revolution torch burning at Music Fog!

The SteelDrivers "If It Hadn't Been For Love"

Life lately has been a series of misplaced things. I seem to spend way too much time chasing them down: my keys, the phone, my Bluetooth, iPod, shoes, clothing, other random stuff. Something always seems to be disappearing on me, and only turning up upon a dedicated act of tearing the house/ car/ office/ apart. Then there is this phantom date that is dancing in my head, August 4th. For some reason I have a sneaking suspicion I have to be somewhere, but I don’t know where, why, or with whom. It’s not in my calendar, on Facebook, or at any of my usual venue haunts. Yet, it speaks to me…so, if I have made an appointment with you on August 4, please contact me and let me know what we are doing. Sheesh. It ain’t easy.

I hate to say it but some things just need to stay lost, it can be healthier that way….we are talking lost love and the heat of passion here, as today’s tune is a good ol’ murder ballad from The SteelDrivers.

They came to see us during the Spring Music Fog Marathon at Threadgill’s WHQ in March. Woo Hoo, there is news, they are working on a new album, which we should see in the fall, and that ain’t that far from now. They are doing a couple of festivals in Europe this week, then returning for a US run in August, even returning to Texas! Catch them, they are magic! Here are Richard Bailey, Mike Fleming, Gary Nichols, Tammy Rogers, and Brent Truitt, with “If It Hadn’t Been For Love.”

Paul Thorn "He Touched Me"

Woo Hoo! Music Fog has started another Kickstarter campaign to get us to Nashville, for the Americana Music Association Conference and Festival. We want to do our thing again, capturing as many artists as we can in High Def, with glorious audio…and bringing it all to you on LiveStream. Yes, The Fall Music Fog Marathon will only be a reality with your help. Support us if you can, either by making a contribution, there are SO many levels of participation! We’d appreciate it if you would share the Kickstarter link with your friends, and so on, that would be most beneficial in helping us get the word out. We only have til August 24 to raise the money that will allow us to travel, and pay our production costs. Music Fog has been a labor of love for The Foggers, for almost four years now. Help us continue our mission, The Americana Revolution, shining a light on these most deserving artists, through high quality video.

No one is more of a poster child for what Music Fog is all about than Paul Thorn. He is doing it, “little engine that could” style, with his massively awesome band, his dedicated team, and his incredible talent. Paul’s latest album gives him respite from songwriting for a bit, as What The Hell Is Goin’ On is a covers album. The choices for the songs that got included on it are inspired, from folks like Buckingham Nicks, Elvin Bishop, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more. He is on the grand tour behind it, criss-crossing the country. We have had the pleasure of filming him several times, and this is an unreleased song from Americana Fest in Nashville two years ago. “He Touched Me.”
