The Trishas "Clockwork"

At long last, it is release day for The Trishas’ new CD! We have watched them percolate their plan for almost four year, playing together tentatively at first, then with more awareness and commitment to the idea of a collective. They have a loyal and growing audience that hangs on every beautiful note of the close harmony they bring. They released an EP in 2010 (they called it a mini-album) They Call Us The Trishas. Yahoo! Today is the day their new delivery, their first full length album, High, Wide, & Handsome, is born.

The Trishas have defied the conventional wisdom for career women, which dictates you have to take care of the ‘biz’ first. As they have bonded with each other and grown their extended family, they have also fallen in love and paired off, and Jamie and Savannah have had babies. And the family grows further, with collaborations from some major players on the new album; Bruce Robison, John Eddie, and Savannah’s dad Kevin Welch, and her brother Dustin Welch, Jason Eady, Owen Temple and Turnpike Troubadour Evan Felker. Oh, and Jim Lauderdale helped out as he co-authored a bonus, download-only track, “A Far Cry From You,” that features Raul Malo on vocals. Satisfying stuff indeed. Music Fog takes you back to the Spring Marathon 2011 at Threadgill’s for The Trishas with a song that is not found on the new album. Here is “Clockwork,” actually the second time we have recorded it, with the first being at MusicFest at Steamboat Springs.

Lera Lynn "Bobby Baby"

Just think of this period as Music Fog’s “Listener Support Drive,” while we try to raise money. Our Kickstarter campaign for our travels to produce another Music Fog Marathon webcast is languishing. Allow me to explain.

We started this grand project, Music Fog, to be 21st Century archivists. We have boot-strapped it with our own time and money (partially from our XM severance).  But our ability to self-fund is long gone, and the past 4 years has probably been the hardest time to start a new business in history. We wanted to shine a light on worthy artists, though many of them are not rolling in dough, either.  We still believe in the mission, but frankly we are running out of time.

We were overjoyed with the support all of you gave us last March for our spring Marathon. It was a collective vote of support for this music, these artists, and of course, Music Fog. When we decided to do our second Kickstarter campaign, we had no idea whether we could go back to the same well twice in one year. Without corporate backing, it is the only choice we have.  Over the last several years, we have captured lightning in a bottle. There have been so many memorable musical moments that we have loved sharing with you, the artists that we film, and their fans. Everything has been viral. Our story gets told through the artists we feature, and the social networking platforms, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have made it possible to get it to the audience.

Lera Lynn has today’s tune. We filmed her last year at the Americana Fest, and we were blown away by her sultry voice and her crackerjack band. We had them return to our stage a few months ago during SXSW for a second outing this past March. Actually, Lera will be performing at Americana Fest again this year. We want to be there, with our cameras in hand. Help Music Fog make that wish come true by pledging whatever you can through our Kickstarter campaign, or passing the link along to someone or some company that you think would like to help.  If you love the music discovery our videos deliver, which by the way have remained free to watch, we would really appreciate it if you would help us make some more. We hope this music, and our mission, is as meaningful to you as it has been to us.

Eric Brace & Peter Cooper "Peace Like A River"

It is a lazy Sunday in the summertime. It occurred to me that maybe, you would just like to hide from the sun, and do a bit of movie watching. Are you hip to SnagFilms? This is a way cool resource - they have over 3,000 films that you can stream for FREE on Snagfilms.com. And then again, you can watch them anytime, and anywhere in the world that you might be, on your iPad, Kindle Fire, Blackberry tablets, Android smartphone, Roku Box, and other devices. Talk about being wired in! As a special incentive to intrigue you even further, the Paul Simon documentary Under African Skies, is available just for two weeks in this month as we are coming up on the 26th anniversary of the Paul Simon Graceland album on August 12th.

So today we put forth a Paul Simon tune to honor the occasion, though it is not a tune from that remarkable album. Come to think of it, Paul Simon has had a pretty damn remarkable career, so today we have his song, “Peace Like A River,” as done by Eric Brace & Peter Cooper. The song is on the Paul Simon self-titled album, which came out back in 1972. Eric Brace and Last Train Home just got done playing the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Festival, which is a fun affair every year. There are dates coming for Eric Brace and Peter Cooper too! They make such a compelling duo on stage. We filmed them doing this song during Americana Fest 2011 in Nashville. BTW, if you love Music Fog’s videos, help us get to Nashville to produce more videos with another Music Fog Marathon, by pledging to our Kickstarter Campaign.
